I will ALWAYS support homeschooling. Homeschooled kids are more freeier and learn a lot more than those public schooled kids. I homeschooled until my youngest hit 1st grade. If you count from birth I homeschooled for almost 15 years!
Last school year was the first year that all school aged children went to school. Guess what? I ENJOYED IT!! I know in the homeschool world that makes me an aweful mommy. A mommy should always want to be there for every single thing their child does. Enjoy in their learning, and help them learn 24 hours a day.
I SO love my children, and their hugs, and their little projects. I love to inspire them, go the library together. Even learning trips together. Everyday is a learning day for us!
I also am looking forward to late August when all of my children will be in school. I will be able to go grocery shopping during the day without a child on me. Have coffee with a friend whose homeschooled children are now grown and on their own. Get my hair done in a salon without being rushed for a change.. MAYBE even get a pedicure! I will be selfish and watch what I want on TV while I fold the clothes.
I will LOVE picking them up and hearing about their day. They will sit in the kitchen getting their snacks and doing their homework as I start supper. They will have a happy mommy who is ready to listen to them and help them.
Although I will always think homeschooling is the best, this Mom makes a horrible homeschooling mommy..
Let the 'how terrible you are' comments commence! ;)

So Disappionted
I was at the library last week and DS 10 noticed a movie for me. Sound of Music. I snatched it up QUICKLY!! It is one of my all time favorites, and it is based on a true story.... Or so I thought....
Yes there was a Maria, but let me compare what I found out while searching on the internet to learn more about this absolutely beautiful story.
Maria was a nun-to be... CHECK!
There were seven children.. NOPE.. TEN!!
The captain was a retired Captain... CHECK
Maria came over from the local nunnery to be a governess... NOPE She was sent to be a tutor to one of the children whom was behind because of scarlet fever.
The captain was very strict and stern and did not allow music in the house.. NOPE He was the total opposite of that.
Maria taught the kids to sing.. NOPE The family was already musically inclined.
Maria and the captain fell in love with each other..... NOPE Maria fell in the love with the children.
Maria and the captain got married because they did love each other.. NOPE She married him because he needed a mother for the children.
Maria ran away to the nunnery because she was in love with the captain... NOPE The nuns encouraged her to marry the captain for the sake of the children.
The Von Trapp family escaped over the Alps from the Nazis.... NOPE. The went to America to sing, and not secretly.
Maria was beautiful... UM... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Maria was a wonderful temper lady and very gentle... NOPE She had bipolar tendencies. You never knew when she would blow.
Geesh... I think I am going to pretend I NEVER read that website and it is a lovely true story as it is..

Boogie Man Spray
Yep, you read that correctly.
I've had my share of littles one being afraid of this or that at night and wanting to sleep with Mommy (this is after they have been moved from my bed to theirs because they are 'big boys and girls now').
My trick is to get a spray bottle. If you can get a sticky label to put on it that works great. Write what ever you wish on it. Ex: Anti-Boogie Man Spray, Anti-Mice Spray, etc.. What ever it is that is bothering them at the time.
Without the little ones watching: Put a little bit of liquid fabric softener into the bottle and top with water.
Tell the little one how you picked this up JUST FOR THEM and whenever they are scared because they hear the boogie man to spray this into the air and the boogie man can't come near them.
My kiddo's have never used more than one bottle, but your mileage may vary.
Good luck chasing away those night time shadows!

Where is Our Class?
There was once upon a time no matter your social or economic standing you put on your good clothes and you went to church. The women had their hats, hand bags, and matching shoes to go to the grocery store. Men wore ties and opened the doors for the women. Over the years the hem lines have risen showing more and more skin. To the point it is no longer modest even in the little girl section of the clothing store.
Go to the store or the mall and you see a sea of raggedy jeans, t-shirt with profanity on it, and even someone wearing pajama bottoms with their house slippers.
WHAT has happened to society wanting to look good? What's wrong with a woman LOOKING like a woman? Hair done, clean and pressed clothes, and not a lot of skin showing. Make-up of your one to wear it. Why can't a man look like a gentleman anymore? Men wearing slacks and nice button up shirts with an undershirt.
Kids wear what ever, pants that they have to hold up or they will fall down. Young ladies are wearing shear shirts with just a bra underneath. Since society as a whole finds this kind of attire acceptable no wonder even public schools are going to standardized dress codes, if not a full blown uniform.
These dress codes are not there to discourage kids from being kids and expressing themselves, but maybe, JUST MAYBE it will teach the young adults to CARE about how they look. Tuck the shirt in, iron the pants. Clean shoes with matching laces.
There's a time and a place for pajamas and slippers. The stores are not it!!
Let's get some CLASS back to our society!!!

How Free was your Freedom??
I am reading Cane River. It is a book about 5 generations of women that started out as slaves. It got me to thinking about my own heritage, about being born in the USA.
My grandmother was a Cherokee Indian. My grandfather came from Sicily when he was boy. He was an illegal that came to the USA through New Orleans. I have my freedom, I did not have to work for it or even earn it. BUT SOMEONE had to do this for me. If you are in the USA, someone, if not yourself had to FIGHT so that you could be here.
So, why do we fight amongst ourselves? Maybe your ancestors did not come to the USA willingly, but they did choose to stay .We are all here because someone wanted us to live a dream. To have freedoms that you can not have anywhere else. Religious freedoms, freedom of speech, to read what we want to read, and to have our pursuit of happiness.
In my own area I see racial discrimination. I am white. I did not get to chose that, it was how I was born. JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!! How a person is does not have anything to do with color. There is trash in every ethic group, there are those that work hard to make something of themselves. To better their lives and their family's lives. Our blood is the same color, RED.
Sept 11th just passed. Citizenship day is Sept 17th. Let's fight TOGETHER to keep this country the best in the world. The most FREE country in the world.
We as a nation can only do this if we stand together against those that want to see this dream destroyed. To allow that would be to dishonor our ancestors that fought for us, their future family to have a free place to live. It would dishonor those that to this day still fight so that they can come to our home, to make it their home as well.
Now go buy a Coke ;)
